Spring West Coast Racing and Channel Island Cruising

MARTHA is comfortably tucked into the Southwestern Yacht Club Guest dock after arriving from Mexico and clearing U.S.Customs.

Many Thanks to the Southwester YC for their generous hospitality, along with the folks at Island Palms Marina.

Our trip up the outer coast of the Baja Peninsula was really highlighted by all the whale sightings.   Between LaPaz, Cabo San Lucas, and Magdalena Bay we were treated multiple times to breaching humpback whales, both in small groups and singularly.     North of Mag Bay we began encountering Gray whales, some swimming close and even directly under the bowsprit.   All seemed very calm and appeared to be truly gentle giants.

It’s spring race season and we are registered for the America’s Schooner Cup and planning our first of the season crew race training dates. We will use the Spring Race series to tune up the Transpac crew.

We will be up against some very fast boats and good sailors as we test our mettle in San Diego Bay in both the America’s Schooner Cup and the Yesteryear Regatta in May.

After the Schooner Cup MARTHA heads for Ventura, a haul out and a little loving before heading to Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands.

The Crew is looking Forward to revisiting the Islands which happen to be among our favorite cruising grounds out side of the Pacific North West.

Anyone interested in exploring the Channel Islands with us this Spring should go to our Schedule page for info.
