MARTHA and crew enjoyed a rare gift from Neptune, San Diego to Santa Barbara in 24 hours.
After a two day respite we made an early morning journey to Cojo Anchorage at Pt Conception. After resting and checking over everything, we boogied North to Santa Cruz arriving in 26 hours. We had to motor the distance but given the other possibility, a serious crash and bash, we liked the option.
It’s not uncommon for vessels to be hunkered down in Morro Bay waiting for a window and we were wondering if we would make it to SF in time for Master Mariners!
As MARTHA’s luck would have it, Neptune sent a low pressure system down from the gulf of Alaska, it came inshore south of the Channel Islands just south of our position in Santa Barbara.
The low provided a window for us to make our way to Santa Cruz along with a pod of Humpback Whales.
We enjoyed a warm welcome from the Santa Cruz Harbor staff, including the Port Commissioner. A very comfortable and friendly place and we have enjoyed sharing MARTHA and stories of Port Townsend with folks here.
Sunday morning at 0500 we sail for Half Moon Bay with hopes of passing through the Golden Gate Monday morning with the flood. Wish us luck with the weather and say a little thanks to Neptune for MARTHA.
