The Schooner Martha is just about sold out for 2010 season, with just 7 bunks available.
We have decided to open up an additional 3 day trip in October, so call and reserve your spot soon.

June 4,5,6 will see the Classic Mariners Regatta in Port Townsend, this event promises to be a stellar gathering of classics.
If you’re interested in classic sailing vessels you should plan to come to P.T. stop by and say hello. 
While your here you could go out with PS Express and see some whales.They offer daily trips out to see the wild life.

The Schooner Martha offers a variety of sail training and family adventure programs, here are a few answers to some of the questions we receive along with some photo images.
Questions about sailing in the San Juan Islands.
Do we anchor at night?    Yes, most of the time we are anchored at night, on a longer trip to Desolation Sound there may be one or two over night sails.
  Do we go for hikes and explore the islands?    Yes, we try to have the anchor down in time to hike and explore or sit on the beach by afternoon, before dinner time.
  If we arrive at an anchorage late, we plan a hike the next morning, except when in racing format, we keep a relaxed pace.
  Are meals out of a box or like camping?   No, we do not call our meals gourmet,  but what comes out of the galley is wholesome cooking with fresh organic produce and local grass fed beef, and of course Salmon.

Micheal Berman has put together two beautiful images of Martha as large prints and  he donates 50% of the proceeds to Martha.
Both posters are signed and numbered, printed in an edition of 150 and sell for $50.

The Classic Mariners Regatta is coming up soon, June 4,5,6, and is shaping up to be a great event. If you have a classic woody you should be planning to attend this seasons opening event.
  If by chance you do not have a classic woody but would  like to see a beautiful fleet of wooden boats racing in Port Townsend bay,  you should make plans to come and take a good look.

Martha launches on Thursday the 15th.
The weather moderated and allowed us to finish he hull painting on the 12th, the bottom paint went on the 13th and 14th.
  The Port Townsend Boat Haven yard crew worked their magic and launched Martha in the afternoon.
We want to give a big THANK YOU to the very professional yard staff in Boat Haven. We can always rely on their ability to take care of business.

Saturday we had some of our youth crew India, Julian, Ann, Chloe, and Paul working to clean the last bit of dust and dirt left from the haul out. After lunch we set the freshly varnished bow sprit and tuned the rig.

Again we wish to thank those who helped with the spring fit out, with out the community support Martha and her programs would not be possible.

 We plan to head for Tacoma on Thursday, we hope to see you there!

There is a new organization forming called the North West Windjammer Association. It will be a group of Schooners working together to market and advertise their sail training and vacation adventures.Martha and her crew are heading for Tacoma for the April 24th-25th Northwest Windjammer gathering.  Martha will be open for public visiting and we will give a presentation on historic vessel restoration.

Do you want to see the schooners and meet the crews of the Northwest’s Windjammer fleet? Head down to Tacoma and visit, we look forward to seeing you there.

10 days of unsettled weather gives way to 3 days perfect for painting.
 Thursday hull prep lead to a Friday finish hull coat and cockpit varnish.

Saturday dawns cool and sunny with expected temps in the mid 50’s and a light breeze.
  We will coat the cabin sides and re-coat the cockpit, and of course the furniture in the shop is coming up quite well.

 With Chris grace, Bob Triggs, Holly Kays and Mary d’Arcy all helping to lift we should be able to make good use of this weather window and be ready to launch by the end of the week.
Tacoma here we come.

Learning to drive the new web site is a bit of a challenge for me, it is less complicated to drive a 103 year old schooner. The new site was designed by Keven Elliff and he spent a great deal of time teaching Holly and I what buttons to push, Thank you Keven.

Holly is in the sail loft with some students going over Martha’s sail inventory and building a new boat cover for the Shellback dingy.

Freyja Boat Works has donated the use of their staging for the haul out, sure made it easy, thanks  Arren and Bryan.
