MARTHA is getting ready for her 2016 racing season.

Many ask about our racing program and seem a little surprised that Martha races not only in the local wooden boat races but also with the modern boats. Martha was designed and built as a racing yacht and has been involved in racing through most of her existence. I think few people know that many of the world’s historic, classic and sail training fleets are involved in racing as part of their education programs. When racing, the multifaceted discipline of seamanship, sportsmanship, team work and leadership are in great abundance. Racing demands that the captain and crew are constantly evaluating sailing efficiency, navigation and safety.

Racing will start with the Port Townsend Sailing Association Smith Island Race.  Then  the White Cap Series and Protection Island Race with Port Townsend School District OCEAN Class as crew.

We head to Victoria Memorial Day Weekend for Swiftsure and then back to Port Townsend for the Classic Mariners Regatta.

In July we go into Canada with the Captain Reynaud International Schooner Race, “CRISR”.

In August we will be back in Canada with the Victoria Classic Boat Festival and Schooner Cup, Deer Harbor Classic, Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival Schooner Cup.

And of course we will finish the season with the November Round the County Race.

In between the Racing MARTHA will be offering Sail Training Programs based on a voyaging format. Great sailing and Idyllic anchorages!
